The PMAC 2020 was opened by HRH Princess Maha Cakri Sirindhorn that emphasize on strengthening UHC by design system for people, strong political commitment, strategic leadership, sustainable financing, innovation, multisectoral collaboration, legal and regulatory environment. There are keynote addresses from Dr. Ralf F.W. Bartenschlager, Ph.D and Professor David Mabey, M.D who are laureates of the Prince Mahidol Award Laureates 2019. Professor Bartenschlager and his colleague identified a method to replicate HCV in cell culture and make “replicons” that made possible the rapid screen for thousands of candidates of antivirals. By negotiating the price with pharmaceutical company and provide proper medical infrastructure, the HCV eradication would be achieved at the global level. Since early 1980s, Professor Mabey and his colleagues conducted the trachoma blindness work field in Gambia and Tanzania that caused by the host immune response to the bacterial infection. Azithromycin is the most effective medication to prevent trachoma blindness, but the availability is limited and the price is expensive. Collaboration with pharmaceutical company initiate accessibility for patients to get the medicine.
Since UHC was applied, it has been improving leverage of out of pocket expenses. SDG 2030 achieves this target to get massive investment to give access for poor and vulnerable people. UHC is also associated with political terrain, however, the progress towards the UHC is still inadequate. There is one lesson that we can learnt for UHC is public financing. Need to help countries that still struggling with financing to achieve UHC sustain. Based on Global Monitoring 2019, not all people can access healthcare. Double burden of NCD and non NCD also migration still impact the health system that become fragmented to life. Taxation on NCD caused will transfer the fund to support health service. People is the center of UHC and need empowering patient to the higher level. Using information technology to support UHC. Comprehensiveness in all sectors, retransform financing and diseases, strengthening the family healthcare are whole responsibility. Health is a political choice. UHC is not about leaving anyone behind, not only a dream, not only investing more, but also investing better.
